Banksy painting self-destructs after selling for over $1 million

 (YouTube, 2018)

“Going, going, gone...” (Sky News, 2018)

I am a bit behind with all my posts, but just wanted to note that I’m learning about Visual communication and all aspects what comes within.

VISCOM is one of the most important ways for people to communicate and share information or rise an attention, like all favourite here Banksy.

So, I thought - that was the funniest moments in auction history, so would be rude not to share it.

The anonymous street artist posted a video on Instagram showing Girl with a Balloon being sliced into strips at a Sotheby’s auction.
He claimed that the preparations were carried out “a few years ago” and defended the stunt with a quote from Picasso: “The urge to destroy is also a creative urge.” (The Independent, 2018)

Visual Metaphors, at their finest. It can be the most powerful forms of communication. They are made when a subject is portrayed in relation to another unrelated subject or context. These visual metaphors are all around us. They are found in the most memorable and witty advertising campaigns and political cartoons. In the case of Banksy, they are also very effective in street art. (Scott Jensen Design, 2018)

Banksy is an artist that has mastered the use of visual metaphors – visual communication. That alone has pushed him above others in his field.

There are lot of theories and suggestions, what he really trying to say, but one is for sure his visual communication with people reached another level at Sotheby’s auction.

Busy weeks ahead…

So, it’s been thought gathering and mind map planning weeks for me. Finally, I have a clear picture of tasks I need to fallow and writing I need to undertake.

First of all, it’s all about creative influences. – I already started discussion abut it in my main sketchbook, fallowing the current, market trends and perspectives and what it means for me in realistic picture. I reflect on my personal experiences within current art industry, stating a local issues and what future holds for upcoming artists like me. Since the beginning of time, art has been a great connector of people. It’s how humans have expressed themselves, communicated and shared experiences in every society, race and culture throughout history. As such, these intrinsic fundamentals of art – the creativity, connection and communication it delivers –– will never change. But there is something that changing, and will continue to change - the way we discover, connect with and purchase art.
My next step is to plan my proposal and I already have few ideas which direction I’m willing to go, so there will be more to fallow.

Besides all that there is essay to write, which often seems to be a dreaded task among students and I’m not exception as I often find this task overwhelming. Luckily, I did find my subject so its matter of time and effort now. As its all about influence I am choosing Mark Rothko – who is considered as one of the most renowned figures in the history of abstract expressionism movement and left significant impact throughout his life as an artist.

The main reason of choosing him is that I saw few of his paintings just this year while visiting TATE Liverpool, he also has same roots as me - as we both are emigrants of same country. So, I do look forward to knowing him better while writing my essay.

As everything getting sorted in creative influence field I have few issues with my Visual communication module, main aim of which is to help develop a wide range of transferable art and design skills, techniques and processes. It should encourage my originality, independent thinking and creative reflections as expand skills in visual research, experimentation, the exploration of ideas and design layout. …. So far I have blank space – as I’m not sure which way to go. There is lot of issues I want to address my attention, but I really need to pick one and create two pieces of art as a result. So, so far, I have to admit I have nothing.
Hopefully, there is still time, but my day is so full of other commitments, what slows all study process quite a bit.
