Welcome to the FINAL month

So, first week of Easter half term, there is no much to go as soon as we get back is handing in time.

VISUAL STUDIES

Not a pretty picture for me. If first draft was discard as being too hard to read, with all the different colours and fonts now is all about content, which is far from great as I know that already. Tutor asked me – what I’m want at this point and I give him a decant answer, pass, that’s all I want at this point. Things I need to change to satisfy his level is above my power, just for simple reasons – time. My work at the moment takes up everything I got., I know it’s not excuse and as a higher education student I just need to get on with it.

So, at this point I’m taking break my research any further as I want to finish – bits and pieces I have left in everywhere else. Let’s call it calm time before s**t storm hits me hard. Sorry, but it will happen as I can see dark clouds of inevitable consequences gathering above the horizon line. The point is my work not come close to what needs to be done and I’m not sure if I ever be able to improve it.

My plan is to leave Time line alone at least for this week as I just can’t face it.

STUDY SKILLS

More or less under control. I submitted my Legislations blog to Lance. There were few bits to change, mainly adding references. Which took some time. Not sure why it wasn’t mention earlier, I do re call to ask if blog needs Harvard referencing…. Well that’s done. End of last week I publish my summary and all I can hope it will get read by someone again and not just as before.

Anyway, there is still presentation to write and present, but I will think about that later. Closer to the final, to keep my mind well balanced.

As part of my required reflection I can say my research into legislations and guidelines will give me much better view into legal structure and things and will help make right decisions for future based of knowledge I gained throughout this course.

FINE ART

Retail is constantly evolving and in the digital age having a physical presence where the customers can experience our art products is key to putting our name out there.
Everyone can have winning idea and put it out to the open can really kick start progress towards desired destination. That’s why temporary retail space is the perfect platform to take business to the next level.

I done my part in setting up a POP up Shop and it was great experience and learning curve.
ON THE DAY...

I was so excited that couldn’t sleep night before. Even had a nightmare that I forgot to pick up Amber, as it was my duty – she lives not far from me.

Anna made a trip from Ashby herself.

Day before I sorted all my stock – my own art and some bits and bobs from the gallery, making sure it’s suited the colour range. I picked up some cards – which also fallowed the theme, contacted Uttoxeter council to make sure, what time we need to be there and if there any more additional requirements. There wasn’t any, as I booked us and send copies of booking forms and public liability insurances in advance via email few weeks before and paid for the table from my business account (I can claim that back later), all we needed to do is to turn up.
We arrived just after 10 and didn’t take long to set up one table. I was a bit disappointed with position of the table, not against a wall, but in the middle. Place itself was nice and airy. Lots people around, especially at lunch time, but… Long story short, I didn’t sell any my work, only some cards from the gallery stock.

Probably the most successful was Anna as I brought her hand made small lavender bags, to sell them at the gallery afterwards. I think our art table was the best there was, but people weren’t looking for art, they mainly were browsing and searching for bargains and food.

Table next to us was selling cakes and were busy all the time.

Well it wasn’t an art trail or exhibition or gallery space – local craft market, with average people just spending their day out looking rather than buying anything.

After lunch time, traffic become less, loads just didn’t go indoors – choosing to stay on the street and look no further. Probably we would do better if we were on the street, but I wasn’t sure about the weather, so we agreed to be inside rather than a street.

Still I would say it was a good experience and learning curve- which really all I wanted. In meantime I got to meet some other craft people, exchanging cards I did sort of networking, which will bring people to my gallery.

Popping up on this occasion maybe not made us any profit, but gain experience and understanding, what public in places like this are after.

There was mainly elderly and families, so not a people who looking for an art painting or hand designed cushions, more like pork pies or Victoria sponge.

Next year I would really want to go for proper art experience and sign myself for art festival like “Belper Arts Trail” for example. Where people come to admire handcrafted pieces and there is more culture around.

We could have done it this year, but timing was wrong – some art festivals didn’t start till early May, so really, there wasn’t big choice of places. Some of them being far, some too expensive, we did best we cloud and I’m still very pleased.
