Last week before we break up –for
a half term, being attached to Burton College we get more holidays than other
university students would. Considering that it is already rather short year for
us (till end of April), we also get some school term holidays between and I Like
IT.
Its doesn’t mean that there will
be time for rest as homework and things to do hits high roof.
VISUAL STUDIES as usual
continue with workshop, this time we went digital, progressing from cut up typography
to laser cut – meaning that letters should be placed together using Adobe Illustrator.
I had slight experience with this program last year on Graphics course. To be
honest everything Digital frustrates me and there is reason why. I am far too
old to sit and learn all abilities of this amazing Software, but this is the only
way to do it – sit and play around. Makes me mad every time I do wrong move its
messes all up. I just can’t see me master it and so there is never going to be digital
artist in me.
I did all what I needed to do
as quick as possible to be able to do my practical in screen printing which
turned out to be a disaster.
One of my screens with the
Eiffel Tower been placed wrong way so there was no chance for me to be able
layer it with my Iron Bridge image. All I could do is to print them separately.
Iron bridge turned out too bold and smudgy and absolutely unsatisfying. Eiffel Tower
on other hand turned out better, but considering it is other way round also
made me down.
I used different colour inks
to save the day, but still. I perhaps needed to use image with both photographs
together already, but too late for that now. There is some preview of a
disaster.
STUDY SKILLS and another
guest lecturer – this time filmmaker David Moriss. He mostly in lighted us
about his experience after graduation from Falmouth University, running his own
company in quite young age and being able to work with some of the biggest
artists, directing and producing multiple exiting projects.
There it is again – chain reaction
– series of events what can lead some to unexpected journey and impressive
carer.
It was very interesting even
if I don’t attend media course movie is my second love.
Now David is more into
filming documentaries mostly considering human rights. He told us about his
filming experience in Brazil which open eyes for me how really truly dangerous this
country can be and the real struggle amongst locals.
Yes very inspiring and very
good to get such people visiting us with so many interesting stories, my only hope
to see some fine artist as well.

FINE ART Thursday morning went
rather quietly - me moistly doing oil workshop overwhelmed with thoughts about
last night’s experience watching Loving Vincent. I think one of those days I
will copy one of his paintings. I feel urge to have something like that on my
wall. I will never own the original, but having something made by me and inspired
by him could make me proud.
But going back to real life I
made this and I think it turned out okay considering is just a small playful
canvas pads – no skills or layering involved.
I need to really start
considering what to paint as my final piece, as oils intend to dry slow and time is approaching.
I still have to research some artists which I have in mind. As far as I’m decided
its going to be an oil and something contemporary abstract, I think I just experiment
and improvise, to see what’s happen. Even abstract seascape put some sort of guidance,
horizon line, soft water reflections etc. This time I want to be freer and just
go with my inner self.
ILLUSTRATION is still putting
a lot of pressure on me. There are students already making progress and I’m
still can’t decide what to paint, or draw, or else. I hate being so indecisive,
its killing me.
At the moment, I scrapped
ideas to recreate Samara image, I need some colour in my life, so it’s still
both kids, but in which shape…have no idea, hope it will comes to me sooner or
later as only two weeks in general left.
